The Queue: Mercenaries

Welcome back to The Queue, WoW Insider’s daily Q&A column where the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.Today’s edition of The Queue is nice and lengthy again, after a spree of shorty-shorts. See, good things happen when people actually ask wow goldquestions! Although since it’s being posted so late in the day, I bet Adam will have trouble again tomorrow. Do him (and yourselves) a favor: Ask Adam a bunch of completely absurd questions so he has something to write for all of you tomorrow!   Airleagan asked… “In the Ulduar Cinematic, the Horde and the Alliance both reject the idea of going into Ulduar, yet the players go into Ulduar and are on the Factions of the Horde and the Alliance, Why do we not Listen to our leaders or do they even matter because it seams the Horde just does whatever they want no matter what Thrall says?” The players are a lot like mercenaries in WoW. Hired guns. Note that even in history, mercenaries often had a kingdom that they called home, while not serving it on the battlefield unless they were being paid or rewarded (or their inaction

Blizzard spotlights the growing popularity of WoW papercraft

Now I don’t get papercraft myself although I have come across it periodically. Basically it is the art of folding paper, turning 2D images into 3D models. Now this is not new and we’ve covered it before (check out our papercraft gallery below while you’re here) but Blizzard Europe have taken some time out to interview papercrafter and designer Pascal as well as featuring some of his awesome creations. I’m trying (and failing) not to go all fangirl over his papercraft moonkin (Druids FTW, etc., etc.) but it’s impressive how intricate these models can be, from a mail box to a dragon. The spotlight also offers some hints on how to get started and while I’m totally useless at any crafty stuff, it makes me want to have a go at one of these beauties.

The Daily Quest: There is nothing Nobel about Noblegarden

We here at WoW Insider are on a Daily Quest to bring you interesting, informative and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.Everyone has something to say about this lovely little world event going on, and we’ve selected some of the best blog wow goldentries from around the net for you to enjoy today:   Mend Pet has some good egg spots for Horde. BlizzPlanet has a nice Noblegarden guide. Be sure to check out ours too. Wobin writes over at WoW LJ about a great add-on to get your attention when finding an egg. Biker Bunny. And for the non-noblegarden related post today, Matticus knows why you’re Frustrated by Ulduar.

Throw your own egg hunt with Noblegarden Eggs

I’ve been looking at the Noblegarden items for awhile now, since they first showed up on the PTR. For some reason, it never hit me until I saw it on live realms how cool one item in particular actually is. For five chocolates you can buy your own Noblegarden Egg, which allows you to lay a Brightly Colored Egg. Yes, that’s five wow goldeggs for one egg of your own, which is a pretty horrible exchange rate. What’s so cool about it? They’re the exact same eggs you’ve been picking up that whole time, except that you can set them out. You can loot them right away for an added chance of whatever loot may be in them, but I’m not sure why you’d do that, except for possibly completing Dressed for the Occasion/Sunday’s Finest. What makes it better is that other people can loot them. What makes that so great? If you can get an organized crew (and their alts) together, you can set up your own Noblegarden Hunt for your guild or your friends and family. Laying an egg has a 1 hour cooldown, so each of you will only be able to set out one egg each, but with a sizable group that might not be too terrible. A brief hunt, but you can make it

Phat Loot Phriday: Soulscribe

Hey hey, now we’re talking. Here’s our first Ulduar item, and it is an excellent caster dagger. Name: Soulscribe (Wowhead, Thottbot, WoWDB) Type: Epic Unique Main-hand Dagger Damage/Speed: 88-283 / 1.80 (103.3 DPS) Attributes: +54 Stamina, +49 Intellect. These stats and the name point to Warlocks as the main users of this dagger, but really, given the rest of the stats, almost any caster could get some good use out of this thing. The main thing it’s missing is Spirit, so if you count on that, you might want to look elsewhere, but this is Ulduar gear: chances are it’s an upgrade no matter who you are. Gallery: Phat Loot Phriday Improves crit rating by 28 and haste by 48, again both nice for almost anyone. And improves spellpower by 550. Tasty. A “scribe,” of course, is someone who writes, so a “soulscribe” would be an instrument for writing or erasing souls. Very powerful. How to Get It: Drops from the 25-man Yogg-Saron (in normal mode, not hard mode). So make it to him (good luck with that one), down him and win the roll, and the dagger is all yours. Yes, we’re a little early on this one — most guilds

The WoW Headhunter helps with guild recruiting

Last week we were kindly invited on the PixelatedGeek podcast (thanks, Erin and Nelson, for having me!) and while there, we heard from Darren of WoW Headhunter, a brand new site that wants to get you or your guild hooked up with some new guildies. The site is pretty barebones: you can look through available guilds or enter your own. But they do add a little something new: whenever you enter a guild into the site, you can create application questions and even run through a survey that charts your guild along four lines: between Reckless and Deliberate, Social and Competitive, Fun and Serious, and Learner and Veteran. So you can choose between the Reckless Competitive Veterans and the Deliberate Social Learners. Kind of a fun idea. Unfortunately, the site isn’t too populated yet (I couldn’t find recruiting guilds on either of the servers I frequent), but it did just go live today, so it may take some time for recruiting guilds to find their way over there. And unfortunately, while there is an option to put an Armory link in your profile, the site itself doesn’t tie in to the Armory directly, so you still have to go searching for metrics when players apply (would

The Daily Quest: Ulduar

Despite all of the instance server problems last night, a number of bloggers throughout the community marched into Ulduar to give the place a whirl on live realms for the first time. We Wipe On Trash downed a few bosses. They also, amusingly, wiped on some trash. Luckily, that trash was hotfixed today. Honor’s Code had a whole lot of fun figuring out Flame Leviathan. If you haven’t tried that boss out yet yourself, it might be worth reading before you do. First hand experiences are even better wow goldthan regular ol’ strategy posts sometimes. Hoof n’ Healz came to the realization that Naxxramas made him a worse player, and Ulduar trash surprised him a little bit. I fear that most of my raid will come to that same realization tonight when we give the place a whirl. Of Teeth and Claws is just a little bitter about the current state of the game, and hopes Ulduar will revive the endgame. Mirror Shield was a little surprised by the difficulty of the trash, too. Fel Fire lost Ulduar. Yeah, lost it. Whoops! Soap Bubble took some shots at Flame Leviathan and Ignis, and also has some thoughts on mana regen as a Discipline Priest. Matticus has a full strategy

15 Minutes of Fame: Abotu shapes up a custom figure

15 Minutes of Fame is our look at World of Warcraft players of all shapes and sizes – from the renowned to the relatively anonymous, the remarkable to the player next door. Tip us off to players you’d like to hear more about. Last week, Mike Schramm introduced Abotu (Emerald Dream-US) and his to-die-for custom Troll Rogue action figure. Abotu has been sculpting custom figures as long as he can remember. “When I was little, if there wow goldwas a toy I wanted that I didn’t have, I’d try to make it myself out of modeling clay or construction paper,” he remembers. He’s done exactly that here by creating Abotu, his own World of Warcraft figure – puts Figureprints to shame, doesn’t it? 15 Minutes of Fame visited with Aboto this week, not only to find out more about the player behind the talent but also to get inside scoop on exactly what went into making his Abotu custom. Our two-part look at Abotu the sculptor, the making of Abotu the action figure, plus photo galleries of the Abotu figure and other creations from this talented player … after the break. Main character Abotu, naturally Server Emerald Dream-US (Horde, RP-PvP) 15

Magic Eight Ball Says: Outlook good for Patch 3.1 tomorrow

The World of Warcraft is waiting on abated breath tonight for the official announcement of Patch 3.1 going live tomorrow, and it appears that announcement will be coming soon. WoW Insider has a few sources that are all pointing towards tomorrow as the release date, save some major internal mess up at Blizzard HQ. MMO-Champion also has some (Are our sources the same? The world may never know.), and Bibi is running a similar announcement over there. While these are by definition just rumors, they are taken quite credibility by many of us. What does this mean for you? It means you’ll want to become familiar quickly with all the patch 3.1 changes if you haven’t already. The best place to find out everything is via WoW Insider’s Guide to Patch 3.1. Be sure to check back to it throughout this evening as we get more information in and tomorrow as the floodgates open. Should be a fun next few days!

The Light and How to Swing It: Patch 3.1 and you

With Patch 3.1 looming wow goldever closer (there’s a good bet it comes out this Tuesday or the next, but I won’t promise to eat a hat it if it doesn’t), it’s time to examine just how the content will affect our favorite class. The patch is huge, with new features and a massive raid dungeon that should keep us all busy for at least a few months before everyone starts whining about having nothing to do. Except those freaks in Ensidia, maybe, who’ll be paid to finish all the content in — oh — 27 minutes or something. For the rest of us, it’ll be a brave new world and a time to relearn a few things. First off, we’ll all be getting free respecs, which is good because the talent trees have changed considerably, particularly Protection and a bit of Retribution. Holy didn’t get shaken up too much, but it did get a solid nerfing, so some Holy Paladins might want to ditch the tree for something else. Or not. Patch 3.1 will also introduce Dual Specs, which will allow players to have two different, toggleable talent trees for the special price of 1,000 Gold. So yeah, Holy Paladins can grumpily keep being Holy with the option
