Win Grunty by answering 10 Escapist questions

As part of their Halloween celebration, the Escapist magazine is giving away twenty Grunty the Murloc Marine codes to sharp readers able to answer their 10-question quiz about the World of Warcraft’s Hallow’s End event. Readers, who have to register at the site (go ahead, it’s free), need to get all ten questions correctly in order to be entered in a random drawing to receive one of the codes for the murloc pet. Aside from being unbearably cute and badass at the same time, the Starcraft-themed baby murloc which was given away at this year’s BlizzCon also gets into a shootout with the Zergling pet. Or explodes in green goo. It depends on who gets the jump. Fortunately for you readers, there’s no need for that kind of violence. Just head on over to the Escapist Magazine and answer their fairly easy quiz (insert Headless Horseman laughter here), a multiple choice affair that doesn’t have any time limit — so it’s actually kind of a giveaway. Well, a giveaway for players with a good grasp of wowhead and wowwiki the game, as it’s not exactly easy. Well, it wasn’t easy for me, but I’m no expert on Azerothian Holidays (I

WoW Insider Show Episode 113: LFG with a vengeance

We had a fun show as always on our podcast last Saturday — Gregg Reece joined Turpster and I to talk about the most popular stories of the last week. We talked at length about Hallow’s End and how it’s going for everybody, the new LFG system coming to patch 3.3 and what to expect in there, as well as last week’s developer chat on Twitter and whether or not Blizzard should do it again. And of course we answered your emails, and actually went longer than I think we ever have before. Not three hours long — we’re only doing that if we can get 25,000 followers on Twitter (and hey, though we’re not there yet, we’re actually moving pretty steadily towards that). But it was a nice long show this past week, full of the usual information and fun. Hit it up to listen on any of the links below, and enjoy — we’ll be back next Saturday afternoon as usual.

Emergency European maintenance this evening

A little while ago, 2 am Paris time, servers went down in the EU for emergency maintenance. More specifically, “emergency database maintenance.” They’re estimated to be down until 4 am Paris time, which by my estimate is another hour or so. Should that maintenance be extended any further, we’ll be sure to let you know right here on WoW.com. Many thanks to our followers on Twitter for alerting us of this downtime, because our European staff members are apparently off doing silly things like sleeping. Thanks a lot, guys. Because of that, I’m now inflicting cultural stereotypes on you all in the form of the picture at the top of this post. Don’t take your rage out on me, take it out on the warlock.

It came from the Blog: Let’s go Trick or Treating!

The Inns of the Eastern Kingdoms are filled with candy, free for the taking. So, obviously, it is time for It came from the Blog to go Trick or Treating. Here are the particulars: When: 4:30pm EDT (2:30pm Server Time, 1:30pm PDT) Saturday, October 24th Where: Meet at Falconwing Square on Zangarmarsh (U.S.) Who: Any Horde character, any level. There will also be a second part of the event for epic mounted, flightpathed characters. What: Various Hallow’s End activities in the Eastern Kingdoms. How: Ask Robinella or any It came from the Blog Lurker for an invite to the guild. The first (and major) part of this event is open to all levels. The second part will consist of finishing up the Eastern Kingdoms Achievement that the Lowbies have a hard time getting to. All are invited (and encouraged) to attend. If you have any questions like “Why are you Horde biased?” and “When are you coming to my server?”, the short answer to both is “We aren’t” and the long answers can be found in our FAQ. We hope you’ll join us!

Patch 3.3 PTR: Icecrown testing starts tomorrow

Lead Encounter Designer Daelo has posted over on the forums that the testing of Icecrown for patch 3.3 will begin tomorrow, October 15th, with the Lord Marrowgar encounter. Blizzard will also have the trash before him up and working as well — the Icecrown raid preview describes the fight as an army of undead guards, commanded by Marrowgar, “a monstrosity fused together from the bones of the undead.” Sounds like good times to us. Stay tuned — we’ll definitely have a few players available to test the encounter and give you some impressions from the PTR tomorrow, and if we can get enough folks together, we might even stream it again. As Daelo points out, the testing schedule will be extremely flexible, so Blizzard will likely pull bosses up and down at a moment’s notice — they’ve got a lot to test and probably less time to do it than they’d want. Note also that this is for US PTR servers only — the EU will have a seperate testing schedule that will be available on their forums when it’s ready. To Icecrown!

WoW Insider Show Episode 111: Ninja werewolf

Good times on the WoW Insider Show last Saturday — even though Turpster was AFK for the week, we had a packed show, with Matthew Rossi, Chase Christian, and Eddie “Brigwyn” Carrington all jumping on to share some opinions. We talked about the new instances already testing over on the PTR, as well as what we’ll find in Icecrown (we kept the story spoilers out of it, though we did talk about some bosses and their abilities). And we hit up the character selection and creation screens and chatted about what might be better on those. Email was also answered, and we even heard from a fan that the Ustream app will even work over just a plain Edge network connection, so if you’ve got an iPhone or iPod touch, there’s no reason that you can’t listen live on the show every Saturday at 3:30pm Eastern. Meanwhile, enjoy the show this week, and oh yeah: there’s only a little bit of time left to put in nominations for the Podcast Awards, so if you feel the inclination, please put us in for your People’s Choice and Gaming podcast nominations over there. Thanks!

WoW.com TCG Loot Giveaway: Papa Hummel’s Pet Biscuits and Slashdance

Since we’re in the middle of a pretty lazy Sunday here at the Wow.com secret world headquarters, we decided it might be cool to reach into the old prize box and pull out a few goodies for all you evening browsers of WoW news and information. In particular, we’re going to be handing out a few TCG loot codes courtesy of our good friends at Upper Deck. For starters, let’s throw out two codes for some Slashdance grenades, which will make everyone in the blast radius break out into dance. Pretending you are the Music Meister optional. We’ll also give away an old but goodie – a code for 50 Papa Hummel’s Pet Biscuits, which will make the targeted vanity pet grow. Use it on your Teldrassil Sproutling and pretend you have a pocket druid healer (actual healing ability not included). Leave a comment below before 2:00 am EDT, and we’ll pick a few of you at random to get these codes. It’ll give us something to do while we wait for more submissions for our October Guild of the Month contest.
