I love Battlegrounds. I think they all have their positives, though my favorite is still Alterac Valley. So I’ve been wanting to hold an It came from the Blog BG event for a while and I’ve decided it’s time… Time for the first Battleground Bonanza! Here are the details:
When: Wednesday, December 2, 11:00pm EST (8:00pm PST, 9:00pm Server time)
Where: The Hall of the Brave (where the Battlemasters are), Orgrimmar, Zangarmarsh U.S.
Who: Any level 10 or above Horde character.
How: Ask any It came from the Blog Lurker or Robinella for a guild invite.
What: Battleground premades
Though any Battleground level character is invited, I will be playing on Robinella, who is a level 60 Death Knight and will therefore be playing in the 60 to 69 range BGs. We will be forming groups and hitting as many level/group-size appropriate BGs as we can for an hour or so. If you can’t make it to the Hall of the Brave in time for the event, you will miss out on the first screenshot, but will still be able to participate. If you are unfamiliar with Battleground play, please do some homework so that it will be more fun for both you and your teammates.
More details are after

It’s Pilgrim’s Bounty, folks, and that means that it’s a time for family. A time for friends. A time for giving. A time for mercilessly slaughtering hundreds of thousands of helpless game birds. And a time, of course, to be thankful. While you stuff your polygonal face with potatoes, pie, and, of course, the ol’ bird, remember to keep that in mind. So, on that note …
What on Azeroth are you thankful for this Pilgrim’s Bounty? What’s warming your heart besides cholesterol?
Me, I’m thankful for heirloom items. I’m thankful for The Art of War and Judgments of the Wise. I’m thankful for Predatory Strikes and Lightning Overload. I’m thankful for my readers and my faction leaders.
And you guys? How about you? Pass the gravy and let us know.

In celebration of today ushering in five years of WoW, let’s take a step away from traditional Moviewatch material and look at some early alpha and beta footage from Stormwind and Ironforge.
The footage is quite astounding when you watch it. You’ll notice that there are entire sections of both cities which have changed dramatically, and indeed Ironforge itself was nearly entirely revamped to remove the “second level” from it. You can see remnants of the second level of Ironforge today in that there are some oddly placed balconies and doors — it all looks normal to us now, but when you watch the video you can see that it looks much more natural the way it was.
The “internet consensus” is that alpha Ironforge was changed because people were getting themselves lost all the time in it — something which isn’t very good for a starting city. However as far as I can tell that never came out of published comments from a WoW designer, so take it with a grain of salt.
And yes, before some you inevitably ask, Patches of Yesteryear will be returning this week — although we’ll only be running it once every other week due to

This sort of video isn’t usually considered to be WoW Moviewatch material. I can admit that. But the video still made me smile, and it has enough unique qualities that it’s a step apart from the usual “Level 1 Raid video.” So, take a moment and check out Level 1 Dwarven Hunter Raid.
First, the music used by the Warcraft Hunters Union gives the video a sense of narrative motion. There’s definitely a building crescendo and anticipation to the events. Second, there isn’t the usual rapid-fire spam of tiny numbers telling you how much damage the level 1 raiders are performing.
Last, these chaps made it all the way to a dragon. And won. They admit that there was a level 80 or two floating around to give some hep, and they mostly zerged the dragon to death. Still, it’s a nice little surprise at the end of a fun video.

It could be hard to imagine that our favorite four-button face-smashing Retribution Paladins were once less than superstars. However, the long-lived among us remember that in vanilla WoW, Paladins were largely buff dispensers in dresses, armed with a couple heals and the super-sexy Tier 2 Judgement set. In memory of the Paladins of that bygone era, Greyfoo has written the Pally DPS Song.
Greyfoo’s song definitely has a handful of chuckle-worthy moments. I have to admit that it really drummed up some nostalgia for me. And while my Paladin sure isn’t rocking the Arena ladder, I still have to acknowledge that he’s doing about a billion times better than he was in the original game.
I found Greyfoo’s animation suited just fine to his song. The music is fun and low-key, but satisfying. I hope Greyfoo had a good time creating this video, and that he comes back around to do more.

The next wave of Icecrown Citadel testing began today. A new patch 3.3 build was uploaded just hours before testing was scheduled to begin. Tonight, we’d take on Lord Marrowgar and Festergut. Raid loot had been implemented so we were anxious to see what some of the drops would be like.
Not only that, today marked the first time Chill of the Throne would be active on the PTRs. Players could tackle the raid content to determine how it felt. My thoughts on Chill of the Throne will come after the break and after I finish my Lord Marrowgar impressions.

Just off the official preview page from Blizzard comes the Shaman tier 10 armor set, which will be released in patch 3.3. And we all haven’t been waiting for this set long enough, have we?
The Shaman tier 10 set is called the Frost Witch, and this definitely fits with that motif. After looking closely at the image, Sacco and I think the horns of ice on the head and shoulders do not appeared to be textured, so that’s something we have to look forward to being completed in the future.
The shoulders also feature what appears to be a two ghost-animals jutting out of them, very likely a periodic effect that we’ve previously seen in the BC warlock set.

Origano is back with the third installment of The Achiever. This episode features similar Achievement-fetching exploits as the first two, but it’s definitely starting to come up a notch. As a nice bit of continuity, the new installment is voice-acted by Farinar, who you might recall from Dr. McNab Destroys Halloween yesterday. The Achiever 3 – Going Down! also enjoys a guest appearance by Whowho, one of the bloggers over at the Myndflame site.
I think Origano is getting better and better. He’s resolved the challenges he had with a muddled soundtrack, and all the dialogue is crisp, clear, and easily understood. I also think the humor is stronger than before, especially now that he’s grown the plot with a rival gameshow.
The Achiever 3 – Going Down is definitely the strongest episode of the series, and my hat’s off to Origano. He also gets props for not succumbing to the natural double-entendre from the achievement title, which has probably got to be the most linked Achievement in WoW’s Trade Chat.

I think this might be one of my favorite things we’ve ever done (though all credit must go to Turpster, as usual). Last week on the show, he asked listeners for pictures of where they’re listening to the show, and we got a nice gallery below of all of you in different places (many of you at work, which makes us worry a little bit), all listening to the WoW Insider Show all over the world. If you take a picture this week, feel free to send it along to theshow@wow.com, and we’ll add it into the gallery below.
In the meantime, here’s a new episode, featuring said Turpster and myself, along with Eddie “Brigwyn” Carrington, talking about what’s coming up in patch 3.3, including the new looting system, paladin changes aplenty, and hints at the next expansion. And as usual, we answer your emails and just generally have a fun time. Enjoy — and be sure to send us a pic while you listen!
