WoW Moviewatch: Pally DPS Song

It could be hard to imagine that our favorite four-button face-smashing Retribution Paladins were once less than superstars. However, the long-lived among us remember that in vanilla WoW, Paladins were largely buff dispensers in dresses, armed with a couple heals and the super-sexy Tier 2 Judgement set. In memory of the Paladins of that bygone era, Greyfoo has written the Pally DPS Song. Greyfoo’s song definitely has a handful of chuckle-worthy moments. I have to admit that it really drummed up some nostalgia for me. And while my Paladin sure isn’t rocking the Arena ladder, I still have to acknowledge that he’s doing about a billion times better than he was in the original game. I found Greyfoo’s animation suited just fine to his song. The music is fun and low-key, but satisfying. I hope Greyfoo had a good time creating this video, and that he comes back around to do more.

Patch 3.3: Lord Marrowgar and Chill of the Throne impressions

The next wave of Icecrown Citadel testing began today. A new patch 3.3 build was uploaded just hours before testing was scheduled to begin. Tonight, we’d take on Lord Marrowgar and Festergut. Raid loot had been implemented so we were anxious to see what some of the drops would be like. Not only that, today marked the first time Chill of the Throne would be active on the PTRs. Players could tackle the raid content to determine how it felt. My thoughts on Chill of the Throne will come after the break and after I finish my Lord Marrowgar impressions.

Patch 3.3 PTR: Shaman Tier 10

Just off the official preview page from Blizzard comes the Shaman tier 10 armor set, which will be released in patch 3.3. And we all haven’t been waiting for this set long enough, have we? The Shaman tier 10 set is called the Frost Witch, and this definitely fits with that motif. After looking closely at the image, Sacco and I think the horns of ice on the head and shoulders do not appeared to be textured, so that’s something we have to look forward to being completed in the future. The shoulders also feature what appears to be a two ghost-animals jutting out of them, very likely a periodic effect that we’ve previously seen in the BC warlock set.

WoW Moviewatch: The Achiever 3 – Going Down!

Origano is back with the third installment of The Achiever. This episode features similar Achievement-fetching exploits as the first two, but it’s definitely starting to come up a notch. As a nice bit of continuity, the new installment is voice-acted by Farinar, who you might recall from Dr. McNab Destroys Halloween yesterday. The Achiever 3 – Going Down! also enjoys a guest appearance by Whowho, one of the bloggers over at the Myndflame site. I think Origano is getting better and better. He’s resolved the challenges he had with a muddled soundtrack, and all the dialogue is crisp, clear, and easily understood. I also think the humor is stronger than before, especially now that he’s grown the plot with a rival gameshow. The Achiever 3 – Going Down is definitely the strongest episode of the series, and my hat’s off to Origano. He also gets props for not succumbing to the natural double-entendre from the achievement title, which has probably got to be the most linked Achievement in WoW’s Trade Chat.

WoW Insider Show Episode 114: Live on location

I think this might be one of my favorite things we’ve ever done (though all credit must go to Turpster, as usual). Last week on the show, he asked listeners for pictures of where they’re listening to the show, and we got a nice gallery below of all of you in different places (many of you at work, which makes us worry a little bit), all listening to the WoW Insider Show all over the world. If you take a picture this week, feel free to send it along to theshow@wow.com, and we’ll add it into the gallery below. In the meantime, here’s a new episode, featuring said Turpster and myself, along with Eddie “Brigwyn” Carrington, talking about what’s coming up in patch 3.3, including the new looting system, paladin changes aplenty, and hints at the next expansion. And as usual, we answer your emails and just generally have a fun time. Enjoy — and be sure to send us a pic while you listen!

Win Grunty by answering 10 Escapist questions

As part of their Halloween celebration, the Escapist magazine is giving away twenty Grunty the Murloc Marine codes to sharp readers able to answer their 10-question quiz about the World of Warcraft’s Hallow’s End event. Readers, who have to register at the site (go ahead, it’s free), need to get all ten questions correctly in order to be entered in a random drawing to receive one of the codes for the murloc pet. Aside from being unbearably cute and badass at the same time, the Starcraft-themed baby murloc which was given away at this year’s BlizzCon also gets into a shootout with the Zergling pet. Or explodes in green goo. It depends on who gets the jump. Fortunately for you readers, there’s no need for that kind of violence. Just head on over to the Escapist Magazine and answer their fairly easy quiz (insert Headless Horseman laughter here), a multiple choice affair that doesn’t have any time limit — so it’s actually kind of a giveaway. Well, a giveaway for players with a good grasp of wowhead and wowwiki the game, as it’s not exactly easy. Well, it wasn’t easy for me, but I’m no expert on Azerothian Holidays (I

WoW Insider Show Episode 113: LFG with a vengeance

We had a fun show as always on our podcast last Saturday — Gregg Reece joined Turpster and I to talk about the most popular stories of the last week. We talked at length about Hallow’s End and how it’s going for everybody, the new LFG system coming to patch 3.3 and what to expect in there, as well as last week’s developer chat on Twitter and whether or not Blizzard should do it again. And of course we answered your emails, and actually went longer than I think we ever have before. Not three hours long — we’re only doing that if we can get 25,000 followers on Twitter (and hey, though we’re not there yet, we’re actually moving pretty steadily towards that). But it was a nice long show this past week, full of the usual information and fun. Hit it up to listen on any of the links below, and enjoy — we’ll be back next Saturday afternoon as usual.

Emergency European maintenance this evening

A little while ago, 2 am Paris time, servers went down in the EU for emergency maintenance. More specifically, “emergency database maintenance.” They’re estimated to be down until 4 am Paris time, which by my estimate is another hour or so. Should that maintenance be extended any further, we’ll be sure to let you know right here on WoW.com. Many thanks to our followers on Twitter for alerting us of this downtime, because our European staff members are apparently off doing silly things like sleeping. Thanks a lot, guys. Because of that, I’m now inflicting cultural stereotypes on you all in the form of the picture at the top of this post. Don’t take your rage out on me, take it out on the warlock.

We hope you’ll join us!

Patch 3.3 PTR: Icecrown testing starts tomorrow

Lead Encounter Designer Daelo has posted over on the forums that the testing of Icecrown for patch 3.3 will begin tomorrow, October 15th, with the Lord Marrowgar encounter. Blizzard will also have the trash before him up and working as well — the Icecrown raid preview describes the fight as an army of undead guards, commanded by Marrowgar, “a monstrosity fused together from the bones of the undead.” Sounds like good times to us. Stay tuned — we’ll definitely have a few players available to test the encounter and give you some impressions from the PTR tomorrow, and if we can get enough folks together, we might even stream it again. As Daelo points out, the testing schedule will be extremely flexible, so Blizzard will likely pull bosses up and down at a moment’s notice — they’ve got a lot to test and probably less time to do it than they’d want. Note also that this is for US PTR servers only — the EU will have a seperate testing schedule that will be available on their forums when it’s ready. To Icecrown!
